What is FIRST LEGO League?

FIRST LEGO League introduces students to the fun and excitement of STEM through hands-on learning with LEGO bricks and robotics. The program is divided into three age-based divisions:

  • Discover: Pre-K through Grade 1 — young builders explore the fundamentals of engineering and teamwork through creative play.

  • Explore: Grades 2–4 — students begin applying design and problem-solving skills with simple LEGO robotics.

  • Challenge: Grades 4–8 — teams design, build, and program robots to solve real-world missions on themed competition fields.

Across every level, students learn engineering concepts, programming, and the iterative design process in an age-appropriate, engaging way. FIRST LEGO League celebrates teamwork, Gracious Professionalism®, Coopertition®, and innovative thinking.

The program is cost-effective and volunteer-driven, featuring reusable robot kits and easy implementation—even for educators without a technical background.
